In a revealing interview, former WWE wrestler Dakota Kai, now known as Charlie, opens up about her journey and the challenges she faced within the wrestling industry. She claims she was always battling an invisible barrier, a 'glass ceiling' that hindered her progress.
But here's the twist: Despite being released by WWE last May, alongside Braun Strowman and Shayna Baszler, Kai believes her time there was invaluable. She cherished the connections she made, but also felt the need to rediscover her passion for wrestling after what she perceived as a sudden dismissal.
Kai, now preparing for her comeback match against Kris Statlander at Pro Wrestling Eve's Wrestle Queendom, shared her thoughts with Busted Open Radio:
"My WWE experience was a blessing. The people I encountered and the locker room camaraderie were truly special. Yet, I had to step away to rebuild my confidence and reevaluate my place in the wrestling world. I questioned my future in the sport."
Injuries were a concern during her WWE stint, but Kai also felt constrained, as if she was never quite able to break through to the next level. Her release, coming right after the Intercontinental tournament, caught her off guard.
"Injuries might have played a role, and the management change was significant. But the timing was unexpected. I felt like I was always pushing against a glass ceiling, and whenever I thought I'd break free, it persisted. Many factors were beyond my control."
As Charlie, she's open to new opportunities, including matches in AEW or TNA. For now, she's focused on making a successful return and seeing where her career takes her next.
And here's where it gets controversial: Was WWE's decision to cut Dakota Kai a mistake? Will Charlie soon be joining the elite ranks of AEW? Share your thoughts, Cagesiders, and let's spark a lively debate!
