Breaking News: Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Donta Simpson is heading to Missouri via the NCAA transfer portal! This move comes after just one season with the Hurricanes, shaking up the college football landscape.
Simpson's decision, reported by On3's Pete Nakos, marks a significant shift for both the player and the involved programs. During his single season with Miami, Simpson participated in eight out of fifteen games. It's worth noting that Miami is still in the running for the national championship, adding an extra layer of intrigue to Simpson's departure.
Statistically, Simpson made his presence felt with four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry this year.
Before joining the Hurricanes, Simpson was a highly-regarded three-star prospect. He was ranked as the No. 562 overall recruit in his class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. He also held the No. 59 spot among defensive linemen and the No. 72 player from Florida. His high school career at Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna Prep was marked by success, including a state championship and a remarkable run of 13 consecutive wins. Simpson's senior year stats included 60 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks, despite battling injuries.
But here's where it gets controversial... In his junior year, Simpson had an impressive performance, with 43 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. This earned him a spot on the Miami Herald’s All-Broward second team.
And this is the part most people miss... Simpson isn't the only Florida talent joining Missouri. Wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery, formerly of the Florida Gators, is also transferring to Missouri. Montgomery played in four games this season, retaining a year of eligibility. He recorded three catches for 26 yards. Montgomery was a four-star recruit from West Palm Beach (Fla.) Miami Central, ranked as the No. 39 prospect in Florida, No. 37 wide receiver, and No. 262 overall in his class.
