In a thrilling football encounter, the Seagulls' trophy dreams were shattered by a dominant Rovers side. But was it a fair result?
The stage was set on a picturesque Cotswolds afternoon, with former Forest Green midfielder Scott Rogers tweaking his lineup. Three changes saw Scott Wilson, George Birch, and Adam May step in, replacing Luke Coulson, the suspended Will Dawes, and the returning loanee Liam Sercombe.
Both teams boasted impressive form, and the game lived up to the hype. Forest Green and Weston showcased their skills, effortlessly passing the ball on a pristine pitch. However, it was Rovers who had the first real chance, as Adam Dausch's shot from 12 yards sailed over the bar.
The action quickly shifted to the other end, where Emlyn Lewis and top scorer Louis Britton combined to set up Adam May, a former Forest Green player. May's audacious 30-yard strike tested the home goalkeeper, Luke McNicholas, who was up to the task.
Weston then created a golden opportunity. Harry Whitwell's precise through ball found Jili Buyabu, who found himself one-on-one with Max Harris, the former Cheltenham goalkeeper, who made a crucial save.
The Seagulls continued to threaten, with Charlie Cummins, on loan from Exeter, breaking free from midfield and setting up George Birch, whose shot from the corner of the area went just wide. Moments later, Lewis headed May's corner onto the top of the net, so close yet so far.
Rogers' team was in full flow, and a magnificent diagonal pass from Wilson found Birch again, but a Rovers defender blocked his shot.
As the first half drew to a close, Laurent Mendy nearly gave the Gloucestershire side the lead, only for his header to strike the top of the crossbar.

The second half began with a surprise quadruple substitution by Rovers manager Robbie Savage, which seemed to energize Forest Green. They started the half with renewed vigor.
Max Harris, the Weston goalkeeper, made another impressive save, denying half-time substitute Temi Babalola. But Forest Green soon broke the deadlock in their subsequent attack. Joe Whitwell's cross was headed back across goal by Kyle McAllister, finding the bottom corner past Harris.
McAllister wasn't done yet; he secured his brace and doubled Forest Green's lead just minutes later, finishing from 12 yards after a brilliant assist from Tre Pemberton.
Weston responded by making their own substitutions, bringing on Coulson, Jake Hicks, and Callum Wood. But it was during this period of adjustment that Forest Green struck again. Jayden Clarke, another half-time substitute, unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the area, leaving the Weston goalkeeper with no chance.
Clarke wasn't finished either; he became the second Rovers player to score a double, capitalizing on a quick break and firing in another long-range effort.
Weston, to their credit, kept fighting. Good interplay between Hicks and Britton led to a chance for Coulson, but his shot from the edge of the area went over.
The second half proved challenging for Weston, facing a formidable Rovers side sitting second in the National League, arguably the best team they've encountered this season.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, Weston put up a good fight, especially considering the quality of their opponents. As they prepare for their upcoming National League South match against Dorking Wanderers, they can take pride in their performance.
