The dispute intensified when a two-minute video clip, allegedly featuring Dr. Mahathir, went viral on WhatsApp. In the video, Dr. Mahathir is said to have accused Muhyiddin of misusing party funds during a meeting with Bersatu's youth wing, Johor Angkatan Anak Muda Bersatu (Armada). The caption accompanying the video suggested that Muhyiddin's alleged motive for becoming prime minister was to avoid imprisonment.
Muhyiddin responded by questioning the source of Dr. Mahathir's information, suggesting it was provided by irresponsible parties. He emphasized that Dr. Mahathir, as a respected senior statesman, should have sought clarification before making such serious accusations. Interestingly, Muhyiddin revealed that their relationship had been close, and he had even supported Dr. Mahathir's initiatives for Malay unity.
And this is the part most people miss: Despite the gravity of the allegations, Muhyiddin has no plans to take legal action against Dr. Mahathir. This decision raises questions about the veracity of the claims and the potential consequences for political discourse.
