Steelers Gear Up: A Look at the Players Seeking a Spot
It's a familiar scene in the NFL: teams constantly evaluating talent, searching for that hidden gem. This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers brought in a group of 12 players for tryouts, hoping to find players who can bolster their roster. Let's dive into who they are and what they bring to the table.
The tryout list includes:
- DT Ryder Anderson
- C Matthew Cindric
- NT Keondre Coburn
- G Braeden Daniels
- T Josiah Ezirim
- DT Christopher Hinton
- C Jarrod Hufford
- T Jason Ivey
- T Sataoa Laumea
- DE Jahvaree Ritzie
- T Corey Stewart
- T Lorenzo Thompson
One player who immediately catches the eye is Braeden Daniels. The 25-year-old guard was a standout at Utah, earning All-PAC 12 honors. Drafted by the Commanders in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he signed a four-year, $4.594 million rookie contract, including a $754,482 signing bonus. Unfortunately, injuries hampered his rookie season, and he was waived. He has since spent time on the practice squads of the Texans, Chargers, Eagles, and Cowboys. Despite his college success, Daniels has yet to appear in an NFL game.
Another player to watch is Ryder Anderson. The 27-year-old defensive tackle initially signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent. He has also had stints with the Saints. In 2022, Anderson played in seven games for the Giants, recording eight tackles and two sacks.
But here's where it gets controversial... the Steelers are looking at players who haven't yet found a consistent place in the league. Does this mean they're looking for immediate impact, or are they playing the long game, hoping to develop talent?
