In a recent turn of events, residents of Northeast El Paso are facing challenges due to a significant water main break, prompting El Paso Water to take swift action by deploying water tankers. You might be wondering how this impacts daily life for those affected, and the answer is straightforward yet concerning.
Water tankers can be found at several local parks to assist those in need:
- Sue Young Park at 9730 Diana Dr.
- Arlington Park located at 10350 Pasadena Cir.
- Sunrise Park on 3800 Sunrise Ave.
- Chisholm Park, situated across from Clendenin Elementary School at 2700 Harrison Ave.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own containers to these designated spots to collect water. Although many homes are still receiving water, El Paso Water has warned that there may be interruptions in service as repair crews work diligently to fix the damaged lines. It’s advisable for households to fill bathtubs and other containers with water as a precaution against potential outages.
This situation arose early Sunday morning when a major 36-inch water main ruptured near Skyline Park, specifically at the intersection of Girl Scout and Transmountain in Northeast El Paso. The impact was significant, with thousands of customers losing water service entirely, and the affected region extending into parts of Central El Paso.
Repair teams are actively engaged in fixing the issue, but they face hurdles. According to El Paso Water, "The volume of water involved, the complexity of this section of the water system, and freezing temperatures have made repairs challenging. This large pipeline connects to numerous smaller distribution lines, and consequently, about 15 water reservoirs in the locality have been depleted."
As for restoring normal service, it’s expected to take several hours up to a full day in some areas. Even customers who currently have access to water should be prepared for possible outages while crews work to refill reservoirs and stabilize the overall water system.
